North Carolina Governor's Mansion

Home of Pat McCrory, former Charlotte mayor.

Built in Raleigh in the late 1890s the Executive Mansion is an example of Queen Anne style architecture and was designed by Samuel Sloan and A.G. Bauer. Oak and heart pine were shipped from all across North Carolina for use in the building.  Take a look at some lovely details below!

1968.

 1976. Closeup of door hinge.

1976. Grand staircase newel post.

1961. 'Many notables have stayed in the Rose Room ... now called Gladys Tillett Room.'

1966. The two posts in the ends of this rosewood bed lift up about 10 inches. First lady Jeanelle Moore explained that it was to attach mosquito net to the bed in days before screens.

The bricks for the house were made from Wake County clay and molded by prison labor. Many of these bricks, particularly in the sidewalks surrounding the house, still bear the inscribed names of the men who made them. Undated photo.

1976. 'The new upstairs kitchen floor is old street bricks.' Mrs. Jim Hunt pictured.
