When my family moved to Charlotte in the '70s we lived in the Woodbridge subdivision, off Carmel Road. There were no kids my age so I babysat a lot! I'd ride my bike to visit friends in Mountainbrook and Governor's Square or we'd meet at the Red Baron convenience store next to Country Day School -- it's a dry cleaner now.
Did you live in any of the subdivisions below? Do you now? What are your memories?
Woodbridge
Governor's Square
Raintree
The cool new place to live at the time!
Ervin communities
Farmwood
Fox Run
We lived here when my kids were little.
'1/2 mile beyond East Meck High on Old Monroe Rd.'
Heritage Woods
Oooh! 'The Wilds of Meck Co'
Lake Norman lots
Can't touch those lots now, I bet.
Lamplighter Village East
Steeplechase Equestrian Community. What???
Rock Bridge
Quail Hollow Estates
I used to live in Woodbridge. We would sit around in my friend's parent's basement and get high every afternoon and then go rid our bikes around the neighborhood cruising for girls. Great days.
ReplyDeleteAnon- LOL! Do you remember Red Baron?
ReplyDeleteborn and raised in charlotte but my neighborhood isn't listed here as we were black and not allowed or able to afford.
ReplyDeleteAnon 10:34 and Anon 11:37, you are both hilarious! Funny, funny, funny; thanks for the giggles.
ReplyDeleteYou were black? How did that transition go?
ReplyDeleteI remember the Red Baron. I was able to buy cigarettes there when I was underage. Good times.
ReplyDeleteGet high and rid your bike? It shows in your spelling.
ReplyDeleteAnon 10:34 ... I bet that you are still getting high and riding that bike around Charlotte but now living in grandma's basement.

Raintree - riding my bike to greers (providence road west and providence road) to buy copenhagen......
ReplyDeleteCopenhagen & cigs. I confess that I bought my first pack of Salem Lights at Red Baron, underage too!
ReplyDeleteI think all the developers were smoking dope, too, because no one with a lick of sense wants a split-level house.
