  1. The second picture down looks like Lex Luger and Arn Anderson, not Team USA and Sheepherders.

  3. The big woman in the picture is Emily Dole, AKA Mountain Fiji of G.L.O.W. (Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling). Wouldn't be out of the question to assume the other woman is with GLOW.

  4. The "lovely ladies" are from an all-women's promotion called GLOW (Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling)... they are Mt Fiji and Americana

  5. Fact: the midget Lord Littlebrook never made the big bucks....because he refused to grow a mullet!

  10. Yes that is Tommy Young refereeing. He was as recognized as the wrestlers here in Charlotte. Very serious neck injury ended his career when the plan for Tommy "Wildfire" Rich to throw him threw the ropes backfired.

  11. Tommy Young was a great referee for NWA he should be credited in the photo.

  12. Just added Tommy Young's name. I appreciate the tips today, all!

  13. What??? No Blackjack Mulligan???

  14. No Masked Bolos? It's not wrestling without a George Becker being double teamed and pummeled by the Bolos and the last second tag out to Johnny Weaver who punched one Bolo out and destroys the other with the Johnny Weaver roll.

  15. @anon 1:05-Blackjack Mulligan was my favorite wrestler as a kid.

I remember one night The Nature Boy snuck out of the ring...grabbed a chair, got the mic and called Black jack a "Mutha F^^*%". He hit Black jack with the chair, won the match, and I cried the whole way home...

you guys remember how they would put the results in the sports section of the paper?

  16. This was back when "rasslers" were regular people. Super Destroyer lived on our street, Rick Flair and Blackjack Mulligan lived over off of Monroe Rd. I think it was Ole Anderson drove the bus for one of the Catholic schools. I went to school with Blackjack's kids (Barry and Kindal Windham) and Baron Von Raske's kids was in my brother's class.

  17. Yep...Brad Anderson, son or nephew of Ole, Gene & Arn Anderson was in my 5th grade class at St. Patricks in Dilworth 1981.

  19. The Schiavone/Magnum interview was shot at Crockett’s office on Brierbend Drive not at WTBS.

  22. Great photos and memories from when I was a kid. That's when wrestling was "real". I loved The Nature Boy. Was in K-Mart on N. Tryon St. with my grandfather when I was about 6 yrs. old and saw Johnny Weaver buying Swisher Sweet Cigars and he looked hungover. I didn't know what all that was about other than he looked rough and I couldn't believe he smoked :)

  26. Wow. This is bottom of the barrel regional crap wresting. In the 70's and 80's, the old WWF was king. Nobody else had wrestlers like George the Animal Steele, Jimmy Superfly Snuka, Andre the Giant, Bruno Sammartino, Superstar Billy Graham, Greg the Hammer Valentine, Hulk Hogan, Brutas Beefcake, and Ravishing Rick Rude. And most of these guys in this article that were any good eventually went to the WWF.

  27. I remember when all the wrestlers partied at Bennigan's on Sharon Rd. at South Park on Sunday nights and Ron Garvin was a Whispers regular.
