A diving horse and other diversions

Here's a slice of life in 1924 straight from the Charlotte Observer archives!





Larry Toppman, the Observer's film critic, remembers seeing this type of act in Atlantic City, NJ into the 1960's.

In 1924, a 1.25-mile, high banked oval race track made entirely of wood opened off South Boulevard near Pineville on the same spot where the Lance snack food plant is now located.

The Ford Motor Company Plant was built on Statesville Avenue in 1924-25.

My dad always had this brand of pencils in his desk and probably started using them as a child! 
The Venus company was bought up in 1973 and the name was retired.
