Church Street (and the vicinity) has had it's share of accidents over the years.
These Observer stories from the early 1900s involve freight trains, horses, a dog-cart and a trolley.

Does anyone know where the C, C & A bridge was?
UPDATE: Solved! Blog reader John Blythe sent this map.
You'll see the 'Charlotte Columbia & Augusta Railroad' and bridge toward the bottom.

(I know it's hard to read)
So it would be safe to assume you got a problem with Church St ?
ReplyDeleteWe have a project for you to do a similar history on all city streets and see which one wins the prize as the all time worse for wrecks.
Most deadliest street ?
Street with most injuries ?
Street with most pro athlete wrecks ?
etc.
(Charlotte Motor Speedway don't count )
Anon - 'street with most pro athlete wrecks' - that would get a lot of hits on CharlotteObserver.com for sure, LOL!
ReplyDeleteGotta love the difference of writing sytle. Here is my favorite line:
ReplyDelete"In an effort to establish his identify a careful search was made of his pockets."
Anon 9:23 - I know, right? The paper would've been smaller every day if the writing wasn't so flowery/formal!
