New Year's Day baby, 1939

The first baby born in 1939 Charlotte was Nancy Jean Bullock

Check out what that lucky baby won from Charlotte Observer and Charlotte News advertisers!

(Neither paper ran a story or photo of Miss Bullock)

Holy cow - both Perry Mincey Co ads say 'first white baby'.

Super-sleuth John Shaver discovered that Nancy Jean passed away in May:

Recipes, 1966

Eudora Garrison was the Observer's food editor in the '50s and '60s.

Here are just a few of the recipes she ran in May, 1966.
(Try clicking on a recipe a few times to enlarge.)

My mom used to make tuna casserole and called it 'Tuna David' after our last name.
Gave it a little glamour, LOL!

Prunes 'n sour cream. The misunderstood dessert.

I hope the Davises had a nice honeymoon...

The crabmeat canapes have my attention more than the chicken...

1960s Holiday Ads

Take a look at who was advertising in the Charlotte News, December, 1965!

Oh my gosh, I had some Peter Pan records as a kid.

I got a spice rack one year. I was not thrilled.

What is that man looking at? Hmmm.

'I'm just a little black raincloud...'  I had a 33 1/3 Disney record with that Pooh song on it as a kid.

I always wanted a Girl Scout charm bracelet!

1930s Holiday Ads

Can you spot the ad that offers 'A beautiful, live Fox Terrier puppy' with purchase?
I'm sure that went well...
